Sammy James of Minnesota Fastlife Biography

I draw it - you build it.
Sammy James was born a car freak. The smell of mid 70′s exhaust caused him to giggle in his car seat. Riding in the passenger side of a Freight-liner, Sammy was naming off year, make and models of oncoming traffic at the age of 4.

As an adult, he drew for five years straight – learning his own techniques and finding his own style. The feedback he received encouraged him to continue. Now in his sixth year, Sammy is beginning to experiment with other surfaces and media. Experiments with large scale paintings on different supports are opening up a whole new way of expressing his love of fine art and engineering.

Sammy tends to think some machines have a spirit and want to live, drawing automobiles as he sees them in his own head: “The car has to give you a feeling, without paint or even wheels I can look at a ride and it will tell me how it wants to roll.”

Every Sammy James rendering is hand drawn ” using Bristol paper, graphite for the line drawings and anything from a bic pen, acrylics or pastels to fill them in. Sammy has also created amazing canvas paintings. Computer illustrations and Photoshop doesn’t cut it with Sammy. He’d rather sketch until the lead runs out. His obvious enthusiasm and love of the vehicle is apparent in the finished product.

Minnesota Fastlife is the home of true automotive obsession where anything is possible – as long as it’s done for the love of the game.

If your determination is somewhat wavering, make sure to heed Sammy’s forewarning:
“If I draw it, you’d better build it.”
